Since 2008, he made some innovations in his acting style and also began directing films including Shinjuku Incident and 1911.
Today, Chan is a husband to Joan Lin, a Taiwanese actress with whom they have a son with Jayce Chan, an actor, and a singer. He is also the father of Elaine Ng Yi-Lei, the daughter whom he got as a result of the extramarital affair.
